Delivery room setup and reproductive medicine in Eritrea
- 6. March 2025
Despite significant improvements, such as the new construction of the maternity ward and the training of specialists, Eritrea still struggles with limited resources and inadequate medical infrastructure. The work of the Hammer Forum has made a crucial contribution to reducing maternal and infant mortality, but medical care remains a difficult undertaking.
Continuous training for doctors and improved equipment are essential to sustainably improve living conditions for mothers and newborns.
Conclusion
The establishment of a modern maternity ward at Orotta Hospital has improved obstetric medicine in Eritrea, but significant challenges remain. With over 9,000 births per year and the introduction of basic measures such as fetal heart rate monitoring, maternal and infant mortality is being reduced. The Hammer Forum plays a central role in the training of specialists and the improvement of medical infrastructure. Nevertheless, much remains to be done to sustainably optimize healthcare.
