Who we are

Our Vision

Sustainable Medical Education in Africa

met4a (Medical Education and Training for Africa) supports medical professionals in African countries through practical education and training. The focus is on regions with high maternal and infant mortality rates. Experienced doctors and midwives conduct two-week training missions twice a year in the project countries – based on the principle of help for self-help.

Our training programs are developed in close cooperation with African partner institutions and are guided by their needs and training objectives.

Our New Mission

Clinical competence meets global health.

In the future, not only African healthcare professionals but also German medical students and young doctors will benefit from the programs. Together with their African colleagues, they gain valuable clinical and intercultural experience.

Our goal is to train responsible medical professionals with high professional competence and a deeper understanding of global health.

Our Mission

Dedicated mission teams for on-site medical training

Through targeted training for doctors, nurses, and midwives, we sustainably strengthen local expertise. Our focus is on Gynecology, Obstetrics, and Pneumonology to improve healthcare in the long term. In close cooperation with academic teaching hospitals and international organizations, we rely on scientifically sound programs and continuous quality assurance. Our work is financed by donations and government support in Germany. Support our work.

Our history

Share knowledge. Create opportunities.

Medical Education and Training for Africa e.V. (met4a) was founded in Remscheid in 2018 to provide practical training for medical professionals in Africa. Originating from a previous cooperation with the Hammer Forum, the association focuses on sustainable training instead of short-term aid missions. A key project emerged in Eritrea, where midwives, among other things, were trained in obstetric ultrasound – supported by GIZ.

The project work is continuously being developed and expanded to include further partner regions.
