Training and further education for midwives and obstetricians in Eritrea

met4a strengthens medical self-reliance in Africa through targeted training and further education. Learn how we provide sustainable help and improve lives!

Most non-governmental organizations (NGOs) focus on acute emergency aid or children’s aid projects. Our association “Medical Education and Training for Africa e.V.” (met4a), on the other hand, pursues a different approach: We focus on helping people to help themselves and strengthen medical personnel through targeted training on site.

Why medical training is crucial
Our team of experienced doctors and midwives conducts two-week missions in African countries with high maternal and infant mortality rates twice a year. We provide continuous training for doctors, nurses and midwives to achieve sustainable improvements in healthcare.

Focus on specialized fields
In many African countries, there is a significant shortage of specialists, particularly in obstetrics or pediatric surgery. met4a closes this gap through practical training courses for young doctors. Midwives also play a central role: they are trained not only in classical delivery techniques, but also in modern methods such as ultrasound examinations and newborn resuscitation.

International cooperation for sustainable impact
Our work is based on close cooperation with local academic teaching hospitals and organizations such as the WHO and “German Doctors e.V.”. The scientific expertise of our members and the support through funding enable us to establish long-term effective education programs.

Conclusion

Our work in Eritrea shows how important targeted medical training is to bring about sustainable change. Through knowledge transfer and close cooperation with local specialists, we actively contribute to improving healthcare. Education creates a future – and saves lives!
