Fighting child mortality through education. Our contribution to met4a

As an association “Medical education and training for Africa” (met4a), our concern is to sustainably reduce child mortality in Eritrea through targeted medical training. Medical care in Eritrea is challenging, but we see great potential in strengthening local professionals.

Continuing education as the key to better care
We know that there is a lack of regular training for doctors in Eritrea. Young doctors have a solid basic education, but there is a lack of specialized training. That’s why our specialists travel to Eritrea regularly to impart knowledge in a targeted manner – from surgical procedures to modern obstetrics.

The importance of midwife training
Another focus of our work is the training of midwives. They are an indispensable support for expectant mothers, especially in remote regions where medical help is often difficult to access. Through practical training, we improve the quality of childbirth care and help to enable safe deliveries.

Our commitment on site – Everyone can help
Not only doctors are part of our association. Dedicated helpers such as Henriette Freiin von Seckendorff also support us with translations or practical assistance. “The conditions prevailing in the hospital are very simple, no comparison to what we know”, she describes her experiences on site.

With the official founding of the association, we are facing an important step: we can apply for funding and further expand our work. Our goal remains clear: sustainable medical education as the key to better health care in Eritrea. Together we can make a big difference!
